The Russian Military Transformation Tracker reports structural changes in the Russian military. You can see the first eleven issues of the tracker at this page. For a comprehensive geographic view of the Russian military structure see the Interactive Map of the Russian Military Forces.
Information below does not include the Russian units, usually created with mobilized individuals, volunteers, and mercenaries, that do not belong to the core Russian armed forces structure and are likely meant to exist only till the end of the current Russo-Ukrainian War.
Central Russia and Volga Region
An investigation publicized in September 2025 revealed details about the elite Russian UAV unit, Center for Advanced Unmanned Technologies “Rubicon”, including its base’s location in the Patriot military theme park in Kubinka, Moscow Oblast, starting from at least September 2024.
The Western Frontier (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and the Russian border area with the first two countries)
The “Kalmius” Artillery Brigade of the 51st Army (former 1st Army Corps, HQ in Donetsk) had been renamed as the 14th Artillery Brigade.
*
The 150th Mechanized Regiment of the 150th Mechanized Division, existence of which was noted in Issue 10 of the Tracker, appears to be, at the current stage at least, a temporary wartime unit involving mobilized individuals and foreign mercenaries rather than an addition to the Russian armed forces’ permanent structure. It was renamed as the 1443rd Mechanized Regiment (of Territorial Control) in May 2025.
*
Project 22160 class large patrol ship Viktor Velikiy joined the Russian navy on 28 August 2025. Although built for the Black Sea Fleet, the ship will have to wait for a ceasefire in the Russo-Ukrainian War before it can physically join it. In the meantime, the ship will be based on the Baltic Sea.
*
Project 22800 Karakurt class corvette Taifun also joined the Black Sea Fleet on 28 August 2025. For now, it is based on the Caspian Sea.
The North-Western Frontier (the Baltic region and Karelia)
The 120th Naval Infantry Division was established on the basis of the Baltic Fleet’s 336th Naval Infantry Brigade (Baltiysk, Kaliningrad Oblast) in December 2025. At the moment of establishment, the new division included the 336th Naval Infantry Regiment.
*
Buyan-M / Project 21631 class corvette Stavropol joined the Baltic Fleet on 28 August 2025. The ship is likely based at the Baltiysk naval base in Kaliningrad Oblast.
The Caucasus
As of October 2025, a military base for the “Akhmat-Rossiya” Regiment of the Russian armed forces was being constructed in Kurchaloyevsky District of the Chechen Republic. The regiment had been established by the Chechen Republic’s leadership for participation in the war against Ukraine in June 2023. The construction of a base for the regiment could indicate that it is intended to become a permanent part of the Russian armed forces’ structure.
The Arctic
The mixed aviation corps established in the Arctic as reported in Issue 9 of the Tracker is the 7th Mixed Aviation Corps. The new corps belongs to the Leningrad Military District’s 45th Air and Air Defence Forces Army (HQ in Safonovo, Murmansk Oblast) rather than the Northern Fleet to which its current units used to belong in the past. In addition to the pre-existing units listed in Issue 9, the corps also includes the 216th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment.
*
A previously abandoned airfield in Murmansk Oblast, Severomorsk-2, had been at least partly reconstructed by November 2025, and was being used by the Russian air force.
*
Borei-A / Project 955A class nuclear ballistic missile submarine Knyaz Pozharskiy joined the Russian navy’s Northern Fleet on 24 July 2025. The submarine is stationed at the Gadzhiyevo naval base in Murmansk Oblast.
*
On 5 September 2025, Project 23550 class armed icebreaking patrol ship Ivan Papanin, the first of its class, joined the Northern Fleet. The permanent basing location of the new ship was not immediately clear, although it could be the Severomorsk naval base.
Ural, Siberia, and Central Asia
Information from a Russian regional media outlet indicated that the 89th Tank Regiment (established in 2022) of the 6th Mechanized Division of the 3rd Army Corps (HQ in Mulino, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast) is based in Novosibirsk Oblast. Another unofficial source mentioned Shilovo, Novosibirsk Oblast, as the regiment’s basing location.
The Far East
The 55th Naval Infantry Division was established on the basis of the Pacific Fleet’s 155th Naval Infantry Brigade (Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai) on 1 December 2025. At the moment of establishment, the new division included the 155th Naval Infantry Regiment.
